Cameron’s path to Poppy started in the basement of the White House. While working in communications during the Obama administration, she began volunteering in the White House Flower Shop, learning floral design from Chief Floral Designer Laura Dowling. She later traveled to Germany to train under master florist Gregor Lersch.

She went all in on flowers, joining UrbanStems as Head of Products, where she built the company’s international supply chain — sourcing from farms in Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Holland — and helped scale it into one of the largest e-commerce floral gifting companies in the country.

When she designed the flowers for her own wedding (featured in Martha Stewart Weddings), she was struck by how expensive, outdated, and frustrating the wedding flower supply chain was. She saved significantly by ordering directly from farms and working with independent designers — and founded Poppy to bring that same experience to every couple.

Poppy launched in July 2019, raised venture funding, and pivoted through COVID with Poppy At Home — selling 150 DIY floral kits in the first week without advertising. Today, Cameron believes Poppy is the largest florist in the country outside of Costco, with a nationwide team of designers and a mission to make wedding flowers magical, accessible, and easy.

A Davidson College graduate (English, ‘07) and former varsity women’s soccer player, Cameron brings the discipline of athletics and the storytelling instincts of a poet to building a company that’s redefining how couples experience wedding flowers.
