“How does Poppy work?” is the question we hear most from couples. The simple answer: Poppy is a full-service wedding florist with a farm-direct supply chain and one team that handles everything — design, sourcing, delivery, and setup. You work one-on-one with your designer to bring your vision to life, and on your wedding day, your delivery and setup team installs everything at your venue. This guide explains why that means better flowers for less.

The Team Behind Your Flowers

Poppy is a female-founded and female-led company built by a team of floral designers and supply chain experts who have worked across the industry — from farms to fulfillment to design.

Your Designer

Your designer is the person you’ll work with most closely — your creative partner and single point of contact from the day you start designing. They see your style quiz results, your inspiration images, and every change you make to your proposal, and they use all of it to refine and customize your flowers to match your vision. Poppy designers understand wedding aesthetics, color theory, and seasonal availability. Every creative decision about your flowers happens in this relationship.

You can work with your designer through the platform, by text, by email, or on a video call — whatever works best for you. Available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, with 24-hour response times.

Behind the Scenes

Your designer is supported by the full Poppy team — from the operations experts who manage farm relationships and sourcing, to your delivery and setup team, who bring hands-on experience with venues in your area and handle everything at your venue on the wedding day.

Your Poppy Journey: Step by Step

Step 1: Take the Style Quiz and Get Your Proposal

Take a short style quiz on Poppy’s website with your wedding details — date, venue, guest count, color palette, and aesthetic preferences. You’ll immediately receive a personalized flower proposal with floral recommendations based on your style and colors, complete with exact pricing for every element.

Step 2: Start Designing

Your proposal is an interactive tool — not a static PDF — and you can start working on it right away. Browse the recommendations, swap arrangements, adjust quantities, update your color palette, and add inspiration images or Pinterest boards. Your designer sees everything you do and uses your selections and inspiration to further refine and customize your proposal with products that align with your vision.

Want to talk it through? You can schedule a free call with your designer. You’re also able to work on your proposal together directly through the platform or over text — whichever you prefer.

Step 3: Reserve Your Date with a Deposit

To lock in your wedding date, place a deposit:

  • $249 deposit — reserves your date
  • $1,750+ deposit — reserves your date and earns a 5% discount on your total order

Your deposit is fully refundable up to 7 days after placement or 60 days before your event, whichever comes first.

Step 4: Refine at Your Own Pace

With your date reserved, your proposal lives in your Poppy account under the “My Flowers” tab, where you can:

  • Add or remove floral elements
  • Swap arrangement styles
  • Adjust quantities (centerpieces, bouquets, boutonnieres)
  • See your subtotal update in real time
  • Share inspiration images and Pinterest boards

You have full flexibility to make changes up until 60 days before your wedding.

Step 5: Wedding Day

Your delivery and setup team delivers every floral element and handles complete setup — from bridal bouquet to ceremony arch to reception centerpieces, each piece placed exactly where it belongs according to your approved design.

The Farm-Direct Advantage

This is the real difference between Poppy and a traditional florist — and it’s why Poppy’s prices are lower and the flowers are fresher.

How Traditional Flower Sourcing Works

With a traditional florist, your flowers pass through multiple hands before reaching your wedding:

Farm → Exporter → Importer/Wholesaler → Local Wholesaler → Florist → Your Wedding

Each step adds a 25–50% markup. By the time flowers reach a traditional florist’s cooler, they’ve already changed hands multiple times and sat in storage along the way 2 Florists' Review Pricing For Profit - Florists' Review .

How Poppy’s Supply Chain Works

Farm → Your Poppy Team → Your Wedding

Poppy works directly with partner farms, and your flowers ship farm-direct to our team near your venue. Fewer steps means fresher flowers, and cutting out wholesaler intermediaries is the primary reason Poppy’s average order of $3,500 runs substantially below the $5,000–$10,000 industry averages 3 Zola Wedding Florist Cost: What Couples Actually Pay - Zola Expert Wedding Advice .

Why This Is Possible

Scale. Poppy handles thousands of weddings per year, which enables direct farm relationships that individual florists can’t access. Those relationships mean better pricing, better availability, and first access to the highest-quality flowers.

By ordering 60 days out at volume, Poppy locks in competitive prices with farms and secures the best flowers available. Without this lead time, Poppy would rely on the same wholesaler channels as traditional florists — and you’d lose the cost and quality advantages.

Addressing Common Concerns

”I want a relationship with my florist.”

That’s exactly what you get. Your designer is your dedicated point of contact from day one — they learn your vision, build your proposal, refine your design, and answer every question along the way. Many couples work with their designer for months, and by the time your wedding day arrives, they know your flowers inside and out.

”How do I know my flowers will turn out the way I designed them?”

Because you designed them — every detail, down to the last stem. Your designer works with you to build a complete, approved design, and our team brings it to life exactly as you approved it.

Real Customer Voice

“The flowers were stunning and lasted for days after the wedding. The aesthetic turned out exactly like the inspo I shared with the designer.”

— Cassidy, Templeton, CA wedding

”Is this just a middleman?”

The opposite. A middleman adds cost between you and the product. Poppy removes cost by cutting out the wholesaler intermediaries that traditional florists rely on. That farm-direct supply chain is why Poppy’s average order is $3,500 compared to $5,000–$10,000 industry averages. And because everyone who touches your wedding — from design through setup — is part of one Poppy team, there’s never a relay between you and the people doing the work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who handles my flowers on the wedding day?

Your delivery and setup team — part of the same Poppy team you’ve worked with from the start. They bring hands-on experience with venues in your area and are often already familiar with yours. Your flowers and hard goods ship farm-direct to our team near your venue, so everything arrives fresh and ready for your day.

Is Poppy a real florist or a marketplace?

Poppy is a real wedding florist — one team with a farm-direct supply chain, a technology platform for transparent pricing, and team members across the country. Your designer works with you one-on-one from your first conversation, and your delivery and setup team handles everything at your venue on the wedding day. One company, accountable start to finish.

How does Poppy keep prices lower?

Farm-direct sourcing. Traditional florists buy flowers through a chain of wholesalers, with each intermediary adding a 25–50% markup. Poppy works directly with partner farms, cutting out those steps. That’s why Poppy’s average wedding order is $3,500 — substantially below the $5,000–$10,000 industry average.

Can I make changes after I book?

Yes. You can change anything about your proposal until 60 days before your wedding, with no revision fees. After the 60-day mark, your flowers are being ordered directly from farms, so changes are limited to quantity adjustments until 45 days out — when your design locks and final payment is due.
